brake pad failure caused rear wheel damage need rust prevention tips

I heard a grinding sound coming from the back as I was driving home. It turns out that the rear wheel and surrounding area were covered in hot metal dust after a brake pad separated from its backing plate and gouged the disc.

I'm searching for a substance or technique to stop the rust on the damaged wheel until I can eventually repair the wheels. Any recommendations?

Yikes, that's just too bad... I think what you need for the rust is a rust converter spray, or even WD-40 might do. You just gotta keep it from getting worse till you fix it right. Don't forget to clean it good before the repair as well. Update us here.

For the mean time, you can clean the area thoroughly and apply a rust converter or rust-inhibiting primer to stop the rust from spreading, products like Fluid Film, Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer or even a light coat of hightemp paint can work.

Rust inhibitor spray or even a thin coat of high temp paint can slow surface rust on the wheel and give you a temporary fix until you get it properly repaired
